The Expendables kicks you in the face August 20, 2010.
Writer: Jonathan Sullivan I will probably echo this statement in August when I see the movie, but The Expendables looks like the manliest thing ever committed to celluloid. Save for Seagal (which is good in my opinion), it's got all the big action stars from the 80's (Stallone, Lundgren, SCHWARTZENEGGER) and current (Li, Statham), and even a bunch of MMA fighters and wrestlers (Couture, STEVE AUSTIN!). Hell, even Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis are in it! I'm sure there's a plot, but I don't really care what it is, I just want to sit back and watch the masters blow stuff up.

Writer: Jonathan Sullivan The Scott Pilgrim graphic novels are awesome. Edgar Wright is awesome. Combine them together, and in theory, you create one hell of a movie. If I am to judge it based on this trailer...I CANNOT FREAKING WAIT. It's like a live action comic book and looks like it'll do the comics justice. Michael Cera, who I usually do not like, looks like he'll fit into the role well, even though he'll obviously be awkward. After seeing the teaser poster and now the trailer for the movie, I can say with complete reckless abandon...I am on freakin' BOARD!
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World comes out August 13, 2010. Writer: Jonathan Sullivan When I think of movies that should have spin-offs, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is never one that comes up. Yes, the movie was funny, but do we really need a movie based solely around the obnoxious rock star Aldous Snow, played by Russell Brand in the original movie? Apparently Hollywood thinks so, so here we are, with the trailer for Get Him to the Greek. According to the trailer, Jonah Hill's character (not the same as his Forgetting Sarah Marshall role) has to get Snow from London to L.A. to play the Greek. This assignment is handed down to him by his boss, who is played by Puff Daddy. Hill has 72 hours, and has to deal with Snow's crazy party life and get this assignment completed so he can move up in the music world.
I'm mixed about this movie. Russell Brand annoys me to the tee and while Aldous Snow worked in small doses before, I don't know if I could sit there and watch a whole movie around him. Still, there are some funny parts to the trailer and it is the same director as Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Jason Segel, who wrote that film, does not write this though, so the humor may be completely different), so I'll hold out hope. I could use a good comedy during the summer. Get Him to the Greek comes out June 4, 2010 Writer: Jonathan Sullivan Normally, whenever I see that Jennifer Aniston is going to be in a movie, I turn and run as quickly as possible in the other direction, and I never have to hear from it again (ahem Love Happens). However, Hollywood has finally found a way to get me to actually want me to see a movie with her involved, and that movie is called The Switch.
Aniston is playing a woman who is artificially inseminating herself and Jason Bateman plays her plutonic best friend. After a mess up involving the original sperm donor of Aniston's (played by Watchmen's Patrick Wilson), we fast forward to seven years later where Bateman sees her kid and realizes that it may be his. He was too drunk to remember. I was initially turned off, but the idea of the film sounds pretty intriguing and Bateman is capable of doing some decent dramatic work, which looks like will be stretches of the film (including his brand of comedy of course). I just wish Aniston was in it...I feel like she'll be the weak link. The Switch comes out August 20, 2010. Writer: Jonathan Sullivan Megamind is the long in development animated film from Dreamworks, previously known as Oobermind. Will Farrell is the voice of the main character named, erm, Megamind who apparently a funny snarky villain. The plot centers around his life when his arch nemesis is finally vanquished, but you wouldn't know it from the trailer. Instead, you get a blue guy being all goofy to an AC/DC song. In other words, this looks generic as hell, but the voice cast (Farrell is joined by Tina "I made Ponyo awkward for Jon" Fey and Brad "Jon needs to stop sending me naked pictures" Pitt, among others with less interesting nicknames) is pretty solid and The Invincibles have forever made me want to see every superhero kids movie ever just so I can go "well, that wasn't as good".
Megamind comes out November 5, 2010 and the jury is still out on if it'll be worth the money. If you're a parent though, you probably don't care and if you're a kid, you especially don't care. |
