Now that Eclipse has made its eighty gajillion dollars and The Last Airbender has alienated both critic and moviegoer alike, it's time to look at this weekend with two new mainstream releases. Are they going to be worth your time? What will my based on absolutely no science Awesome meter have to say? Check it out...AFTER THE BREAK.
Predators
First on the docket is the new Nimrod Amtal film Predators, starring Adrien Brody (swoon) and featuring Topher Grace for some reason. Unlike the other movies where the predators come to Earth to go a huntin', the humans (led by Brody and others) are brought to an alien planet to be used by the Predators as target practice. In essence, it's a game preserve...AND THEY'RE THE GAME (the script is NOT what people care about with this). Since there's no chance of fighting xenomorphs in this one, Predators is already guaranteed to be better than those two AVP movies (god I hate those). A lot of people have been hooplah-ing about Robert Rodriguez's involvement, but I could care less; this looks action packed and has a pretty decent cast (save for Grace). This is my pick for the weekend.

Despicable Me
Your other wide release choice this weekend is the kids film Despicable Me, which boasts an awesome cast (Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, that alien from I-Carly) and trailers that actually made the movie seem pretty funny and, dare I say it, cute. I don't expect the world from this; a cute kids movie with a few funny jokes for the adults and a plot that will most likely not make any sense will suffice, and as funny as the trailer is, the "KNOOOOOOOOOCKED OOOOOOOOOOOVER!" line is groan inducing. Plus, Steve Carell's accent is pretty horrible.
