The weekend of July 16th is going to be an epic time for movies, as not only do the kids have something to sink their teeth into, but arguably the most anticipated movie of the summer (maybe even the year) finally comes out for the mainstream audience. Check out what choices you have AFTER THE BREAK.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (7/14)
The Sorcerer's Apprentice, most likely fearing the wrath of Christopher Nolan, has come out today instead of its original release date of Friday. Starring Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel (who is appearing everywhere lately), it is loosely based off the classic short in Fantasia involving Mickey Mouse bringing things to life and then trying to stop them. However, that's really the only connection. Otherwise, The Sorcerer's Apprentice looks like it will stand on its own as a crazy family-friendly action movie with wizards and special effects out the wazoo. From the trailers, it doesn't look horrible but it also doesn't look great; the movie itself looks very generic but I like Nic Cage (especially when crazy) and Baruchel and their moments together in the trailer are the parts that make me kind of want to see this (which I probably will). Also, Alfred Molina plays the villain and my teenage obsession with the Spider Man movies compels me to say that that is worth the watch alone.

Inception
I don't know if you heard, but that guy who directed The Dark Knight has a new movie coming out this weekend called Inception. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Tom Hardy (BROOOONSON!), and a bunch of other awesome actors most likely, it's about stealing things out of people's dreams and DiCaprio going on "One Last Job". I'm sure there's more to it, but I've been avoiding the featurettes and scenes and other stuff on the internet so it remains a mystery to me until the midnight showing. By all accounts, Inception is going to be awesome; the critics are already circle jerking around it and Nolan hasn't made a bad movie in a long time (I can't say "if ever" since I haven't watched every thing he has done). However, is too much hype going to derail this? More importantly, are we as a general moviegoer "smart enough" to handle it (according to most of the critics, no we are not *sigh*)? Whatever, I was there the minute I saw the teaser and I'm pretty sure everyone else was there the second they saw the cast and "From the Director of The Dark Knight".
